Sustainability at Cheshire Boutique Stays
Sustainability really matters to us at Cheshire Boutique Stays.
Not only do we only work with local suppliers and businesses for all our food requirements but all our properties have been renovated with the strict criteria of never buying anything new unless absolutely necessary (not including the beds and bedding of course!) as our aim has always been to re-use, re-purpose and recycle wherever possible. This is seen throughout the properties in everything from the scaffold board and corrugated iron cladding on the walls in The Cowshed.
In the three year renovation of Cheshire Boutique Bathhouse every inch of history that could be recovered and brought to life has been from re-instating the beautiful timber sash Georgian windows to renovating the loft so that the huge old timber purlins (thought to have been upcycled in the 1700’s from a larger house that burnt down in the fire of Nantwich) are now one of the key features of the property and fully on show for all to see.
The front door had to be moved but we kept it, restored it and re-instated it in the new location. The wide, oak floor-boards were all painstakingly restored and re-instated and the property is insulated and soundproofed to double the usual building reg requirements.
The kitchen units and the Walled Garden wooden ceilings were made from timbers salvaged from the old bank that was knocked down in a nearby village, the sink in the Walled garden wetroom is an old copper jam pan, the kitchen dresser was the old cutlery service sideboard from the Victorian era of Crewe Hall hotel, the vintage balloon chandeliers were all re-wired, hand cleaned and are now the stars of the show throughout. These are just some examples of how so much of the interiors have been created from upcycled, recycled and re-purposed materials. This was all done purposefully to show that beautiful, high standard, luxury interiors can be still be created without adding to landfill and in fact bring about an environment far nicer to be in and with much richer feel than one that has been ‘shop bought’ from new.
We are very proud of how we have designed the house to be able to give back to the local community too by providing a large fabulous open plan, ground floor space where local events, talks, tastings, workshops and large private dining events can be held.
All our Suites run on fully renewable green energy tariffs and the barns are also beautifully heated through their wood burning stoves.
Natural (homemade) cleaning products are used in all our properties and our luxurious Bathhouse toiletries and diffusers are made by a small family business in Cumbria using no chemicals and only all natural, locally sourced ingredients.
We feel that all these endeavours to be as kind to the environment as possible really help to give all our properties that extra special feel that our guests all say they experience first hand when staying in them.
